Meet our newest PARTY FAVORITE...Today's Guest Blogger John Farr

John Farr, the namesake of John Farr Lighting Design is the newest member of the PARTY FAVORITES PORTFOLIO.  We selected John to be part of the PARTY FAVORITES PORTFOLIO because other special event professionals as well as his clients rave about his ability to take event decor to a new level with his lighting expertise and creativity.

I love cool applications for lights, for me part of the charm and wonderment stems from an almost magical sense that the light is coming from nowhere. Want to add a colorful twist to your event that will make your event stand out above the rest? This event used Color Kinetics Color Blast lights to light up the façade of the building outside adding elegant lighting to the architectural features of his home. The installation used 8 Color Kinetics Color Blast 12 lights with a power supply and a controller.

The lights were placed approximately two feet in front of the facade and were concealed from view in planter beds. The lights were evenly spaced three feet apart and focused upwards. The Color Blast 12 fixture can easily throw the colored light the distance of 30 feet which was required for this event. Using this design the designer will be able to choose different custom light shows that meet their desires. During the event they can change up the lighting effects.

I’d love to see some more designs that use LEDs since they are good for the environment and look good, as well. I have a few events in mind in the next few months utilizing the portable nature of LEDs, so we’ll see what I can come up with.

Stay tuned.

Feel the Love of Nitin and Rachna! by guest blogger Tom Trainor

Today's guest blogger is Tom Trainor of Suburban Video.  Suburban Video is a member of the PARTY FAVORITES PORTFOLIO.  We selected Suburban Video as PARTY FAVORITES PORTFOLIO member because although Bill Bowen and his team been capturing DC-area events on film for 25 years, their work remains some of the freshest and most current in the industry.

Nitin and Rachna wanted to let all their beloved wedding guests know the story of how they met and the love that they feel for each other…

The beautiful five-day wedding culminated at a reception at the gorgeous Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort and Marina.  Just before they were introduced into the room, their love story was projected on two of Suburban Video’s large screens in the new ballroom.  The bride and groom were grandly introduced as husband and wife to a standing ovation after seeing this stunning video. The video shoot was held at the charming Senate Park among the blooming flowers on the West Capital grounds in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue with the Nation’s Capital as a backdrop.  Suburban Video teamed with Amy Regetti and Srinu to film their love story and dynamic photo shoot all in one.  The music in the video, picked specially by the bride, is a song that means a lot to the bride and groom.  Their story combined their love for each other, much laughter and the story of their Caribbean proposal.  The end product was fabulous and all present loved it.  Fun was had by all and it was an awesome experience to all involved!

Kudos for the creativity of Suburban Video’s Videographer, Bill Bowen; Producer/Director, Cara Bowen; and Senior Editor, Chris Lucarelli!

Creating Fabulous Event Decor by Guest Blogger Terri Bergman

Today's guest blogger is Terri Bergman of Terri Bergman Events. Terri is a member of our Party Favorite's Portfolio. We selected Terri Bergman Events for our Party Portfolio because of Terri's experience, knowledge and creativity. We love her "do whatever it takes" attitude. Following are Terri's thoughts on event decor...

When planning the décor for a Mitzvah, I love creating an environment rather than a specific theme.  It is so important for your event's environment to reflect the guest of honor’s personality as well as focus on the type of party the client wants to have.

For example, Basketball has been done a thousand times, and lounges have been a huge trend over the last few years.  Why not combine a "basketball theme" with a lounge, or if basketball is the main focus but you want to avoid being too "themey"..step out of the box ..just a bit ..and use the colors and textures that emulate basketball..but don't make the them so “in your face!”  Subtle touches can be creative and fun resulting in something unique…while the guest of honor has their dream “theme”.

Restaurants are also a wonderful inspiration for décor…recreate the atmosphere of your favorite restaurant for your party..you can even serve your menu favorites.

There are so many avenues to explore when creating your décor...don't be afraid to think out of the box to create your signature event.

xoxo  terri

Robert Bowen Shares One of His FAVORITE Bar Mitzvahs

The Bar Mitzvah of Matthew Ochs was a terrific event and the family was delightful to work with. Everything took place at Beth Ami, with all of the Temple photographs taken on a Thursday and the party on Saturday evening. The room décor was amazing as you will see.

Enjoy the images.
